Hello, my name is Dr. Albert Parra and I am running for Arlington City Council District 6. My family moved here from El Paso, Texas when I was five years old. I am a first generation, bilingual latino man and I work as an Oncologist in the Arlington-Fort Worth area. My family has deep roots in this city. I remember summers at Six Flags, swimming lessons at Vandergriff park, Ranger games at The Ballpark in Arlington and taking a break from the heat at the Parks mall. Arlington has helped shape me into the man I am today and I want to ensure that I protect it’s legacy, while also building for the future.
I am very involved in the community, along with my wife, Catherine Parra, and our three children, Alexa, Avery and Albert Parra, Jr. My children attend AISD’s Butler Elementary and our home is nestled in north Arlington near River Legacy Park. I have been involved with Butler Dads club and currently serve on the Site-Based Decision Making Committee for Butler.
My educational career began at Texas A&M University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics. From there I attended medical school and subsequently residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. After completing residency, I made my way back home to pursue my fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at UT Southwestern in Dallas.
I now have a busy oncology practice that spans the Arlington-Fort Worth area with The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. I have served on the North Texas American Cancer Society Board of Directors. In 2017, I won the North Texas Real Men Wear Pink campaign. I continue to participate in various projects with the Hispanic Wellness Coalition. I serve as the Cancer Committee Liaison and an Executive Board Member for Baylor All Saints in Fort Worth.
While Arlington is growing at a fast pace, we still have room for improvement. I am prepared to face topics such as safe and beautiful neighborhoods, diversification, strong economic development and how best to lead our city through the 21st century. Arlington is known as the “American Dream City.” I am running to ensure that every voice in Arlington is heard. I want to make sure that every citizen of Arlington has the opportunity to achieve their Arlington American dream.
